Around the world, there are all sorts of different marriage customs. In India, for example, it's tradition for the bride to get a henna tattoo. This is said to ward off evil spirits and bring good luck to the marriage. In Japan, meanwhile, it's customary for the bride and groom to drink sake together.

This is seen as a way of bonding and symbolically becoming one. And in the UK, it's traditional for the bride to wear something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue. This is said to bring good luck to the new marriage. All of these different customs show just how varied weddings can be around the world.

United States

Although Christian weddings in the Arab World bear similarities to Western weddings, Muslim weddings in the Arab world have many unique customs and traditions that are different from anything else you've ever seen. For example, in some parts of the Arab world, the bride and groom don't exchange wedding vows. Instead, they drink sake from three different-sized cups.

This is done to symbolize the bond between them. In other parts of the Arab world, the bride may wear a crown to deflect evil spirits. And in some cultures, every man who dances with the bride is required to pin money on her dress. These unusual customs make Muslim weddings in the Arab world truly one-of-a-kind experiences.

China

Marriage customs around the world are fascinating and provide a unique window into different cultures. In China, marriages used to be arranged by the parents of the bride and groom with the aid of a matchmaker. Although that practice is not often practiced today, traditional Chinese weddings still have many unique customs.

For example, red wedding invitations are placed in a red envelope. The wording is usually in red or gold and placed vertically on the invitation. The envelope should be decorated with auspicious characters—such as happiness and wealth—and containing a sum in even numbers and auspicious colors.

Other traditions include gate crashing and door games, where the groom has to complete certain tasks in order to enter the bride's home, and the tea ceremony, where the couple performs a ritual that officially recognizes them as husband and wife. These traditions are just a few of the many ways that Chinese weddings are unique and special.

India

Marriage customs around the world are very different, but they all have one thing in common: they are a celebration of love. In India, marriage is a very elaborate and colorful affair with lots of fanfare and rituals. However, in some areas of the country, if a girl is married off at a young age, she may be isolated from the community.

On the morning of the wedding, relatives of the bride and groom gather around and apply Haldi or turmeric in the form of a paste from turmeric, sandalwood, and rosewater. This is said to ward off evil spirits. The bride and groom then exchange garlands of flowers before taking their vows. After the ceremony, the guests enjoy a feast of traditional Indian dishes.

Japan

Marriage customs around the world vary depending on the culture, but there are some similarities. One similarity is the exchange of gifts between the families of the bride and groom. In Japan, this is called "shugi-bukuro.

" Another similarity is the use of sake in wedding ceremonies. Sake is seen as a way to create formal bonds between people in Japanese culture. The "san-san-kudo" ceremony is one example of this. Finally, most cultures have some form of a reception after the wedding ceremony where guests can congratulate the new couple.

Indonesia

It is interesting to note that in some cultures, the groom is not allowed to smile on his wedding day. In Indonesia, the bride and groom wear red and gold attire during the main ceremony.

The bride wears an extravagant hair ornament which could weigh almost two kilograms. This demonstrates the importance that Indonesians place on weddings. It is also noteworthy that the bride and groom exchange marriage ceremony plants, which are often indigenous to the tropical island.
